Newspaper cuttings relating to the protests of the tenantry of Lady Emily Howard Bury, following her serving writs on them. The tenants on the estate at Croghan sought an abatement in their rents, “they having solicited [for same] in the humblest manner”. The Rhode and Croghan branch of the Land League now pledge to fight to the end “thereby showing Lady E. Bury, her agent and the country, what [they] think of an act which [they] have no hesitation in denouncing as unwarranted and unjust”.
Includes an observation that previous to the Land League agitation, the tenants were quite satisfied with their rents “and regarded the Bury family as model landlords”. Includes death of Margaret Tracey, a tenant on the Croghan estate, who had already been issued with a decree against her concerning shop provisions, and who dropped dead when rushing out to intercept a sheriff, whom she mistakenly thought was about to seize her cattle.

Minute books and general accounts books of Daingean Town Hall Committee between 1915 and 1975 with a gap for the years 1951-1952. Daingean's town hall was formerly the courthouse built c.1807 and situated on the main square in Daingean. Early entries for the years 1915-1937 contain accounts such as 'Young Men's Hall' and 'General Hall' accounts. Includes details of expenditure on items such as a billiard table (£1 15 0) and a piano (£7 7 0). General hall accounts included details of monies received from local football club, agricultural shows and dances. Minutes of meetings commence in 1938 and are signed by Rev. P. Kavanagh, Rev. J. G. Moran and Rev. E. J. Kinsella.

Book of transference certificates from the Presbyterian Church, Birr, with 33 receipt stubs listing members of the Birr congregation that have transferred to other congregations in Dublin, Belfast, and other areas. The certificates record the following information: 'The Presbyterian Church in Ireland Transference Certificate. It is hereby certified that X who leaves the congregation of X at this date is a member in the full communion of the church.' Receipt stubs record the destination congregation of transferring member.

Manuscript rent roll for the Banagher Estate, King's County. Lists tenants' names and rents paid for the years 1835-1840. Verso contains general directions for seizing sale stocks and property in the even of non-payment of rent: '...you are to proceed against any tenant who does not pay or get time. This rule is of first importance. If you know of any reason why time may not be safely given you are to mention it should such delay be applied for...'

Also includes a printed rental from 1834 possibly drawn up for sale of lands in the encumbered estates court.

Collection of photographs relating to Birr Barracks and the Leinster Regiment, many of which are reproductions of original photographs by William Lawrence and others. Contains an original group portrait King's County Rifles, Birr (1872), and several images of the Barrack Square. Also contains the only known image of the interior of the barracks, 'The Coffee Bar, Leinster Depot.'

Draft letter from Fr. Hurley, St Francis Xavier Church, Gardiner St., Dublin, to Pádraig [?], comprising 'notes from mss Mt Briscoe 1785.' The letter composed in Irish, contains transcripts in English from an 18th century manuscript loaned to Hurley in 1948 from Mrs Briscoe following a lecture to the Kildare Archaeological Society. Hurley notes that the author of the manuscript was a good historian and evidently had a good knowledge of sources available to him at the time of writing. The manuscript concerns the history of the Briscoes, the marriage of John Briscoe to Eleanor Kearney and the construction of Srahkerne Castle (Srah Castle, Tullamore) in 1588.

Minutes recording proceedings of meetings of the Hospital and Homes Committee containing various reports such as Superintendent's Report from the County Home; Superintendent's Report from County Hospital; and Sub-committee reports from Birr Rural District, Edenderry Rural District, Tullamore Rural District, and Roscrea No 2 Rural District on matters relating to dispensaries and hospitals in their respective areas. Also contains lists of 'Letters and Sanctions' from the Ministry of Local Government.
