              Transcription of letter: 'Dear Middleton, Thank you so much for the Lady smyth photographs. I gave the group in front of the mess that you took to the officers concerned, and they were very pleased to have them. I have been at Durban and met the Rev. Sadler a connection of Colonel Bickerstaff who is on board the flag ship. We leave for Manouveres in a few days. I shall hope to have time to see you if I come home this year, with love to Vera. Yours ever, Nevill M. Smyth’.
