23. ‘Capt. Walton Natal Carabiniers. Another view of same position. Our position was on Ridge, behind the monument. The open plateau in between (a couple of hundred yards) separated this contestants and it was across it that the final charge of the Devons was made. This picture shows well the cover the rocks provided for the Boers’.
