Four items of incoming correspondence from Edward J. Owen, Director of Foote & Milne Electrical Engineers, in relation to a proposed visit to Banagher and preparation of quotation for the installation and supply of street lighting. Letter of 8th January 1813 makes a number of queries as to the population of the town and the existence of a company supplying gas and whether or not any capital could be obtained locally.
Letter of 28th January 1913 (1p) requests a meeting with one or two members of the Electric Lighting Committee and letter of 30th June 1913 enquiries about cost of rental of the street lighting.

Letter from Secretary of Offaly Board of Health to the Secretary of Banagher Parish Council stating that the Electricity Supply Board is proposing to curtail public lighting.

Original incoming and copy outgoing correspondence relating to the administration of the Geashill Estate. Matters referred to include rates of electricity charges; purchase of new machinery for Clonad sawmills from Hendron Brothers, Dublin; wages order and provisions for public and Church holidays for employees at Clonad sawmills; installation of electric engine; offers for sale of 4 woods from Cascade Sawing Mills, Kilkenny and Irish Forest Products; attempts to secure a copy of Irish grant of probate of the late Baron Digby to confirm that Lord Digby is now the owner in fee simple of the deceased's Irish estates; renewal of General Felling Licence.

Includes letter from Kennedy to Digby, "with regard to the Geashill Cauldron I have been on the alert about this the moment I heard it had turned up in connection with the Exhibition of Antiquities held in Tullamore in collection with An Tostal... Suffice it to say at the moment a Father Hurley one of the Jesuit Fathers of St Stanislaus College Rahan near here, a very keen antiquarian apparently succeeded in getting the two or three men at Killelery who had custody of it to lend it to the Exhibition. These men had kept it carefully and prevented it from being sold to the Jews for the value of the metal and they have agreed to allow it to be put into the strong room in the county buildings here where it now is pending negotiations with them by Dr Raferty of the Museum to have it transferred to the Museum. I have seen Father Hurley on two occasions about it all and had long interviews with him and I understand that Doctor Raftery was down in Tullamore and saw the Cauldron but I did not know that he was down at the time and did not see him... You will recollect that in 1932 you wrote to Dr Mahr the then curator that you presented it to the Museum on the condition that as soon as it was exhibited a label should be affixed to it stating that the Cauldron had been presented by you, setting out your exact title and that you did not object to his taking over the Cauldron from the people who kept it instead of from you. Father Hurley is extremely anxious that the Cauldron should be got to the Museum and I understand that Dr Raftery is also, and I have every reason to hope and believe that by careful negotiation, in which I do not think you or I should appear, it will ultimately be got there and when it is got there we can then deal with the question of the inscription to be out upon it". Includes letter from The District Engineer, Electricty Supply Board to Digby estate: "...if you could make an appointment for your Representative to call to our Office so that we could inspect the premises at Clonad and arrange for Tenders for the lighting of the Sawmill and Forester's House, as requitted in our letter to which we have referred. Meantime, Lord Digby for the purpose of deciding the type of electric Motor or electric saw which he wishes to install requires particulars of the charges per unit both for light and power". Letter to R. H. Moore Esq. Hon. Secretary of the Banagher Fairs & Improvement Committee from Gordon Telford at Greir & MacKay Ltd. Engineers in response to queries regarding the cost per annum to users of electric light. Requests that an exact map of the town be forwarded so that an exact price can be given for an installation.

Typescript letter from Local Government Board of R. H. Moore member of Birr No. 1 Rural District Council stating that a Rural District Council is a local authority under The Electric Lighting Acts and that it is not necessary for them to obtain urban powers for the electric lighting of any part of their district.

Ms letter of Joseph Dwyer Hon. Sec. of Portarlington Lighting Committee, to R. H. Moore in response to enquiries regarding the installation of electric lighting in Portarlington. He writes that the firm of Foote & Milne London had offered to install a plant of they could get 800 households to commit to installing lamps. He notes 'I would advise you to adopt our procedure as you are not putting any expense on the rates except the street lighting'(4pp). With two printed blank forms attached being a householders agreement to install electric lamps in their premises

Ms letter of J McCarthy, Secretary of Swinford Rural District Council in response to queries regarding the installation of Electric Lighting in Swinford County Mayo. He writes, 'the scheme has not been in operation sufficiently long to reply fully to to your queries as regards profit but it is estimated that after the first year the undertaking will be a paying one. With ms note of R. H. Moore attached stating estimate of cost to Banagher ' about £2,000 should do'.

Five items of correspondence from Edmundson's Electricity Corporation regarding visit and assessment of their engineer to Banagher in connection with the installation of and supply of electricity. Letter of 5th February notes 'we would recommend putting down the Electric Lighting Station at a convenient position in the town and generating electricity by means of a gas engine'. (5pp) with estimate and attached specification of £1,275 (3pp).
Letter of 13th February 1913 to O'Coghlan, committee member requests a further consultation and states 'we went to some trouble in this matter and trust you will bear us in mind, if it is decided to go with it'. Two softbound volumes containing manuscript minutes of monthly meetings of Banagher Improvement Association. Minutes relate to matters such as securing sites for a Fair-Green, improvement of footpaths, securing a weighbridge for Banagher, improvement of the rail service to Banagher (30th July 1927) and public lighting (11th November 1927). Relates also to claims for one of the new beet factories by Western and Midland Beet Sugar Factory Promoters Union, and local Relief Work Schemes (11th January 1933).
