In 1870, Thomas Weldon Trench resigned his position and W. S, Trench employed Reginald Digby, nephew of Lord Digby, to replace T. W, Trench on the estate. W. S. Trench died in 1872, and Reginald Digby continued thereafter as sole agent for estate.

Each page contains two images, the cottage as it was before improvements and as it was after. The 1860 volume in particular reveals cottages transformed by the improvements. The 1865 volume is less dramatic, mainly depicting the installation of windows in the cottages, and in one case, the construction of a horseshoe shaped forge.
